Review
Another route with a shocking distance to it. The Mile Repeat Loop is located in the center of Phipps Park, making it hard to miss on any run around the park. The Loop follows the edge of the large field in the center of Phipps Park, known as the Sun Field, since there is very little shade in the middle of a massive field, hence its alternate name the Sun Loop. The Sun Field is probably the most typically Floridian route you can find at Forest Meadows, since it is sunny, flat, and straightforward.
In terms of scenery, the Sun Loop is mediocre. Compared to other loops at Forest Meadows, like the sections bordering Lake Jackson or the canopy trees on the Morning Loop, the Sun Loop is lackluster. Most of the scenery is just trees on one side and a big field on the other. You are still in the heart of a beautiful park, so the scenery is not really that bad.
Where the Mile Repeat Loop excels is in its utility. If you just want to add one additional mile to your run, it is very rare to not run into some part of the loop, at least one part of your route. The loop is in the dead center of Phipps Park, so unless you are running on some very exotic trails, you will be able to add a mile this way.
This extra mile should be fairly easy elevation wise as the field is flat all around. There are absolutely no hills, but that does not mean that this loop is incredibly easy. As one may assume from its name, the Sun Loop does get pretty hot in warm weather since there is very little shade in the field. Also, the surface changes a bit from easy gravel to mildly annoying grass, which makes the loop slightly more difficult. Overall, in fair weather, the Sun Loop is an excellent way of adding an easy mile to your run.
