Review
You would never believe what distance this loop is. Just kidding. Located immediately adjacent to Gate B, the Half Mile Loop serves one purpose: getting you an easy half-mile-long extension to any route that you may choose to take. The Half Mile Loop is, above all else, convenient.
The terrain of the Half Mile is more mixed than you may initially expect. The first half of the loop runs adjacent to the beginning of the main trail connecting Gate B to the Sun Field. However, instead of being located on the wide gravel passageways, you get the pleasure of running on a very skinny and overgrown route that runs parallel to the main trail. If you are running in a group, you will likely be forced to run either single or double file wide at a maximum, and the entire ordeal feels pretty cramped. However, once this little 0.2-mile jaunt is surmounted, you return back to Gate B down the main trails.
The convenience that the half mile trail offers surpasses the mild inconvenience of having to run down a mildly congested section of trail. Being able to convert any route you want into a distance that is more to your fancy, be it a Cashin into 7, 2 Lakes into 8, or any other distance that you find but is 0.5 short of your goal, makes this loop easy and quick, like fast food.
Also, like fast food, this route lacks much real substance. There are very few scenic sections of this route, mainly due to the route's short length. There are also few health benefits in elevation as this is one of the flattest routes at the park. But none of this really matters, when all you need is a quick 0.5-mile bite in your run.
