Review
This route is mildly counterintuitive in my opinion as it provides you with additional difficulty and ease over a simple Cashin + Half. Nonetheless, there is no such thing as an invalid reason to run a Top Loop in my humble (and not remotely biased) opinion.
This route starts like all quality loops do, with a simple Lake. The Lake is hope, life, family, companionship, and so much more. It's also a great way to run 5.2 miles at Phipps Park. This broad loop around the outskirts of the Park contains the Lake Hill, quality trails, and the footprints of many runners (Maybe not physically but you get what I mean).
What makes this route interesting is after challenging the runner with a Lake Hill, the route also provides a break when they reach the parking lot again. This break certainly does not have to be taken, especially considering there is only a meager 1.8 miles to go when you reach the parking lot. However, on a warm day, the mere temptation of water is probably enough to incentivize you to take a stop. There is nothing wrong with this action in theory, but it does sort of call into question the reason for hitting a difficult hill only to take a break with the run nearly over.
Nonetheless, you will continue on into the Top Loop. The Top Loop is above all fast and simple. It's just like the Lake Loop, but easier and quicker and only 1/3 of the distance. Then you will be finished and get to experience this shortened version of the 5 and 5 loop.
