Review
This is the way to run 10 miles if you are seeking a challenge in addition to running 10 miles. The challenge: running up the Lake Hill 3 times. In one run. Sure, you get to stay on nice pathed main trails on this route. That is not the reason for doing 3 Lake Loops. You can stay on major paved trails on the Cashin Loop. You are purely hitting this route because you crave a challenge.
The route is just running out to Gate B and doing a Lake Loop 3 times then running back. There is not much more to do in this loop. It is simple, yet brutal. You will obtain sufficient elevation on this route. There is not much more you care about on this route other than the necessary distance and elevation, and trust me, you will feel both. This route does not feel like you are running in Florida. It is just a lot of hills.
There is one very refreshing part of this route, other than the exhilaration you receive by finishing it. And that is the last 1.3 miles of running back to the parking lot after completing the last Lake Loop. Even though you are finishing one of the hardest routes you will encounter in Tallahassee, this last mile feels incredible. You know that you are finished with the massive hills, there is nothing stopping you from this point, and you feel like you are on top of the world. However, just remember that to get to this point, you will need to do a lot of elevation in advance.
Bonus route: If you really, really crave some elevation, you can also do 10 miles by doing 4 Lake Loops. Note, I have never done this route, nor do I intend to any time soon, but consider this a challenge. If you feel so inclined, park your car at Gate B instead of the normal parking lot, and have fun on those 4 Lake Loops.
