You may look at the map for this route and realize, “Hey! All the unique parts of this route are just a big Cashin!” Well do I have news for you, every single loop 7 miles or more has a pretty high chance of relying on the Cashin Loop.
This route is no exception, as the Cashin Loop functions as a workhorse here, driving you down the trails unrelentingly to your goal distance. The Cashin Loop is the heart and soul of this route, providing most of the distance and high-quality trails. It also allows for this route to stay clear of elevation.
Throughout this entire loop, you will be on high quality trails, well maintained and easy to follow. All you must remember is how to get to Gate B, and from there how to navigate the Cashin. Plus, you cannot forget your little jaunt for the half mile. I understand that high quality trails and the partially unkempt part of the half mile do not always go together, but it is only 0.2 miles of a 7-mile-long run.
The reason why this route is so great though is just how easy it is. This route is more or less the embodiment of the Cashin Loop, and it subsequently inherits the lack of elevation. You spend a lot of time on the route after the 2-mile mark just coasting down to the edge of Lake Jackson, then you reach the dreaded Lake Hill. Just as you begin to question your decisions midway up the Lake Hill, you are pulled off the hill and back to flat ground thanks to the Cashin Loop. After this brief promenade onto uneven ground, the remaining 3.5 miles of the loop are like running on the surface of a pancake. When you combine this with the shade that is ever-present throughout the easygoing Cashin trails, you get one laid back route for 7 miles.
